So back before 2018 ended I wanted to play and completely finish Resident Evil 2 since the remake was announced at E3 that year. So that's what I did, and I absolutely loved it. Not only did I love the game, but its OST was also just outstanding.

Now the thread title comes into play: There are two versions of the OST available on Amazon. The Japanese CD (which is also the cheapest one) and the CD published by Viz Music (assuming that this is the "American" version). I'm curious as to which one I should buy because I don't know if both have any clear differences. The only major thing I'd have to do if I decide to buy the Japanese CD is to translate the track names which I already have experience doing thanks to the NieR:Automata OST.

Just curious on your thoughts. Should I spend over $100 on the one published by Viz Music or only spend $27 for the Japanese CD ?

(If you're also curious on why I don't just download this from YouTube, it's because I actually want a physical copy and the tracks in FLAC and several other audio formats.)

So youre gonna buy music? Just download it from a torrent site or youtube if you dont care for quality. Use those 30 bucks to treat yourself with a fancy dinner or smth
Ah yes, my favorite quote from GOT: “May the force be ever in your favor, Mr. Potter” -Gandalf (chronicles of Narnia)

As someone who also enjoys buying physical copies of soundtracks, with Biohazard 2 being part of the mix, you definitely want the one with the best quality which is really difficult to say with the two provided links as they really don’t describe too much from what I am seeing. The reviews give a lot of hints so I’ll just have to base my opinions from those.

Masami Ueda’ Version:
The price is fairly nice and there is a tracklist mentioned in the reviews which can assist with naming the tracks. Thats where things get a bit difficult because the description mainly talks about shipping issues and doesn’t mention the quality of the audio. The main difference between the two is the tracklist. The Japanese version has 31 tracks as Viz has 34. The three tracks that aren’t there are bending tracks that are less than a minute long.

Viz Music:
Vis Music, also known as Viz Media who works on various Eastern entertainment and adjusts them for Western listeners/viewers, is an American establishment as you guessed correctly. They did a lot of work on the original Sailor Moon and such. I mentioned the tracklist earlier so you will get a few extra tracks making less than 3 combined minutes. The selling post however is something I don’t really find appealing just because of the used quality going high, 1 limited, and there being a duplicate post which is currently unavailable. The reviews also mentioned great pricing, but I find that a bit difficult to believe as eBay as some listings under $100 and the Collecters Vinyl is only $40.

Overall I would say to go with the Japanese version because it’s safer and while it’s possible that these copies don’t have the full tracks, they are also the more “original” as it was before Viz was involved. However the differences in quality is something that will have to be compared as I currently haven’t heard Viz’s work of RE2 (98). If you have the cash to blow and want the more traditional soundtrack (I say traditional because Americans mostly grew up with the Viz take) then you may want the Viz version. It’s also important to consider how shipping will be handled as the Masami version does mention shipping issues which is odd for the descriptions.

Hopefully this adds some insight on what you’d like to get as RE2 is one of the best soundtracks to date.

Of course! I loved the OST so I want to buy the quality CD release. I did the exact same thing when I bought the NieR Gestalt & Replicant / 15 Nightmares & Arranged Tracks (the DLC's OST).

I'm no audiophile by any means, but I'd love to have a FLAC release of the OST. As well as ripping it in several other audio formats.

That's what I was also thinking, but if I somehow do end up getting money and want to spend it. Then I'll get the Viz Music release instead.

Hmm I dunno spending 5x as much money for something that should sound roughly the same doesn't seem like a good deal to me

or download the soundtrack and burn it onto your own cd , free physical verison \o/
